I don’t have words…

Ok. Maybe just a few. You don’t see here, how Max later bonked Leo on the head a few times. Or tried to stick a finger in his eye. And later, his ear.

Or how he tried to climb on him. Just to get a little closer. Or how he climbs on the bed, or the sofa to lay down next to his new little brother, quietly sucking his thumb as he tries to find a comfortable positon in limited space. He stands over Leo, ‘engaging’ him in full one way conversations, where completely random words like un peu d’eau, plafond and maa-man make their way into his monologue as he punctuates his lessons with his hands and nods of the head. His vocabulary is quite large and he’s not afraid to use it, even if he’s the only one who understands the particular way in which his ’sentences’ are strung together. He dances for Leo, too. With both hands balled loosely into fists, in the air, he shifts from side to side just like some of the ‘too cool’ to really bust-a-move guys on MTV, because their pants might fall down.

My little boy is a big brother. While it’s a tough hat to wear at such a young boy, I am so blessed that he’s adjusting. He makes me want to be a better mom.

Meet Léo

Room with a view

A bit longer than 6 weeks after our move, 6 weeks of living with my in-laws, Phase I of our apartment remodeling is completed.  This week, we’ll begin living there on our new hardwood floors, most of the rooms stripped of their fuzzy wallpaper and repainted refreshing, light shades of cream and a bidet-less bathroom, even though I’ve heard that they’re fantastic, those bidets.  Remind me to tell you my bidet story from 2002.  Our new bathroom boasts counterspace which we’ll use as a changing area, as we did in our old apartment.  We’ve also added lots of storage space, the idea being that I’ll be more likely to clean if everything has a place off the counter and away from the sink.   Work with me here.

Before and after photos are coming, but I couldn’t wait to share my favorite image of all, from this apartment.  The view.  It tickles of many good times to come.

As four of us stood out on the balcony admiring this view, a couple in the kitchen of the apartment next door was working in their kitchen, the man half naked. He hurried away and came back with a shirt on.  I could barely contain the baby, 2 weeks from due date, as my belly bounced and heaved with laughter.

The heat is on.

It’s hot, I’m 7.5 months pregnant with a fun, active 16 month old, and we’ve just moved into our new apartment, which needs a big facelift. Phase I of that lift begins today, with the removal of some carpets, and redoing all the hardwood under and around them.  Phase I will end with bedroom painting.

What have I learned during this move?  Remember when I wrote, at one time or another, about how we don’t own much stuff?  Now, remember what someone said about denial?

“De’Nile ain’t just a river” or something similar?

I’ll leave you with that for the moment as I rush off to work from the suburbs, where Max and I are eating my in-laws out of their own home.   This isn’t Club Med, but it’s pretty close.

a toute a later…
